Rookie Blue’s Travis Milne Pays A Visit

Travis Milne

You may have noticed the new law in town as of June 24. Rookie Blue, what’s been described as the Grey’s Anatomy of cop shows, has been airing on Global. The series, set and shot in Toronto, airs on Thursday nights on Global and ABC and follows five recent Police Academy grads as they navigate the intricacies of city policing.

Travis Milne

Travis Milne, who plays rookie cop Chris Diaz, came into the studio for a shoot bringing co-star Missy Peregrym with him for company. Though Travis is originally from northern Alberta, he comes to see Kevin when it’s time for new head shots. We’re sure you’re all already glued to your TV when the show is on here, but it’s also launching in just a week in Australia, Brazil, the Czech, Malaysia and Slovakia!

KC Talent Profile: Andrew Jenkins and Calum Worthy in “Stormworld”

It’s been awhile since we’ve had a client profile on the blog. Too long in fact! Coincidentally, we’ve taken headshots for two actors that are closely connected in the same project over the last few months. The show is called “Stormworld” and the two in question are Andrew Jenkins and Calum Worthy. The show, which is set in Vancouver and featured on the space network, is an sci-fi/adventure/comedy about two buddies transported into a parallel reality while joyriding on a fancy new boat. In the new world they run into all sorts of obstacles as they fight to find the way back home. The locations and concepts are out of this world and the two boys work great together on screen. One thing is for sure, they are both great guys. We all had a blast at the studio during both of their shoots and they were both great in front of the camera.

Andrew and Calum

As I hear it from Andrew, travelling to all the unbelievable locations is a great perk for this gig. At this point I’m sure both him and Calum have had enough in-flight meals to last them a lifetime. Especially considering that the flight schedules don’t always line up in the most timely manner. Andrew told me of a particular trip to Perth —

We ended up missing a couple flights because of delays and so we ended up going from: Vancouver to LA to Brisbane to Sydney to Adelaide to Perth. Six planes and over 40 hours just to get to Perth, what a crazy time!

Besides all the travel benefits of working on the show, Andrew and Calum have become close friends ever since meeting in auditions and it definitely shows on screen. Seems like they have a blast. Stormworld is into it’s second season now so check out the boys on your television screen, or you can click the video player below to watch episodes from Season One and Behind the Scenes footage from the show.

And just for fun, you can also watch an quick interview with Calum on “The Circuit” about his work on Stormworld by clicking this clip here:

Vancouver BC

CTV BC News Team, Breast Cancer Run for the Cure, and Vancouver’s Pride Parade.

So, first things first…no it ISN’T possible to have a longer title, I ran out of characters on the blog title input. Actually that’s a lie, but it’s more interesting that way. Written on a blog = fact. Everyone knows that. The next question you may have is how exactly these three things fit together for us folks over here at Kevin Clark Photography. Well, it’s been awhile since the last post, so I suppose things have been building up, but this all sort of hit us with one big awesome wave.

Let’s start with the CTV BC News Team. Is that okay with you? Okay then, I’m going to start with that anyways.  Starting back in April of this year (Tuesday, April 15th 2008 to be exact) Kevin began several days of shooting all the On-Air Talent for CTV BC. And here we are now on Wednesday, August 6th and finally have worked through the entire lot of images and have supplied CTV with 60 total headshots of 31 different personalities. Here are two samples of Pamela Martin and Bill Good. Most of the rest can be found on Kevin’s Headshot website at www.kevinclarkheadshots.com under the “feature” section.

Pamela Martin and Bill Good CTV: Kevin Clark

I didn’t have a chance to be at the shoot, but Kevin mentioned that all of the Talent were just great to work with. Being on TV constantly, I’m sure they are used to exactly how they should look in front of the camera. None better than Bill Good, who after looking through his shots, I nick-named “The Rock”. He is amazing, 60 shots apart and his smile is dead on. Sincere, trustworthy and friendly, everything a great anchor should always be. Many of these headshots are already showing up on the CTV BC website (www.ctvbc.ctv.ca) including promos for some shows such as Bill Good’s “A Good Point”.

As for the ‘CIBC Run for the Cure’ supporting Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, we were just finishing up the retouching on the CTV images, Kevin was called out to shoot Pamela Martin one more time for a brochure they were putting together for “Team Pamela”, a training and donation program. They needed it shot and the image produced fast. Luckily Kevin had an opening only a day or two away and we were able to retouch and submit the final image the same day which was quickly sent off to the printers. Kevin shot Pamela on location down at Stanley Park, running on the beach. Always a fun challenge to shoot motion on a bright day and have your lights balance with the Sun. Luckily Pamela was game for anything so we got some great enthusiastic shots of her running repeatedly in the same spot and crossing an imaginary finish line. Kevin’s assistant David DuChemin was great help that day too, wrangling everything together so all Kevin had to worry about was getting the best shot. And as always Kevin got some great looks which turned out to be the perfect shot for the brochure.  *Notice how clean that beautiful Vancouver shoreline looks? You’re welcome.

So if I hadn’t been so busy with these first two topics the last few weeks, I may have actually have had time to blog about them and then the Pride Parade wouldn’t have made it in this post. But since it’s been so busy around here, time just goes by and luckily all of these fit together quite nicely. It just so happens that also because of how busy the studio is, I haven’t been able to spend any quality time with my dear ol’ Mum lately, so I called her up on Saturday afternoon and said “So Mom, how would you like to go to the Pride Parade with me?” And of course my Mom, being the wonderful lady she is, was delighted and said that she was actually already going to ask me. Cutest…Mom…Ever (Sorry Trish!). I’ve always been too busy in past years, but this year with my Mom by my side, we finally had a chance to take part in the amazing celebrations that literally filled Robson Street (and I mean ALL of Robson Street) and several others. We were actually almost in the parade for a short time, but when the bustle near the beginning of the parade cleared out we headed for the sidewalk so we wouldn’t get in the way. And yes, we both caught beads…and then went to Batman! (different blog post altogether). If you haven’t been to the Pride Parade yet, you really should next year. It’s one of the most touching events in Vancouver by far. It’s great to see a half million people come together to support equality.

Pride Flag

This brings us to why all these topics are related today. A small group of these half million people were none other than CTV’s Pamela Martin, Colleen Christie, Tamara Taggart and I think I saw Mike Killeen out there too on a giant TV shaped float. There were probably a few more, but those were all I could make out through the crowd. Here is a link to the story on CTV’s website: Read More… There were so many amazing floats and just great people walking through the parade. From the first appearance of the RCMP in the history of the parade, to the revolutionary Sikh float, to the random naked old men, Vancouver really had a chance to show what a great city it is that day. Hopefully we keep it up.

Client News: Megan Cole // Seinfeld Episode “The Susie”

Yesterday we had the great pleasure of having Megan Cole in the studio for some new headshots with Kevin. As I greeted them at the door, I thought perhaps we had shot her before since I recognized her face. It turned out we hadn’t before but I found out from Trish later in the shoot that it was a few Seinfeld episodes that were among her most recognizable roles to date. Trish by the way, could find Jimmy Hoffa or tell you who actually shot J.R. if you had her do makeup on the right people…I’m pretty sure the latest Mac line of products she picked up have some “secret ingredients” that induce a magical sort of chatty trust.

The instant she mentioned Seinfeld, my photographic mind immediately transported me to Elaine’s office with her finger in the face of our dear Megan who was playing a co-worker of hers who famously insists on calling her “Susie” to which of course Elaine bears her typical toothy sneer of disgust. Definitely one of the best written and favourite episodes of fans around the world, including myself. And what would this blog post be if we didn’t show you a little sneak peek of the show? Of course it’s on YouTube and in case your memory is foggy on which episode I’m talking about…here is a snippet in all it’s amazing low resolution glory:

**VIDEO WAS REMOVED FROM YOUTUBE***

Great quality viewing there isn’t it? Besides being a great scene with Megan, I just thought it would be fun to watch some TV on our own blog since I don’t have cable! Well, if you couldn’t make out the face from the 8 blurry pixels that molded it, here’s a much nicer look at the vibrant face of Megan Cole. One of my favourites from the shoot.Megan Cole Headshot

I’m sure you recognize her too and if it’s not from Seinfeld I bet it’s really bugging you now. So click on this link to her page on IMDB so you can alleviate your personal torment and put your mind to rest. Thanks for a really fun shoot Megan, we hope to see you again soon!

Client Update // STUDĒO 55 New Website Launch

Our Clients at Studeo 55 announced only a few days ago that they’ve launched a brand new website with a completely new look. The Founder of Studeo 55, Nathan Mellalieu has built up an amazing repertoire of staff and professional atheletes and trainers which help him maintain his spot as the most exclusive fitness club in Vancouver. Nathan and Kevin have been shooting together for the past couple years including the latest shoot which had Kevin photograph every single member of Nathan’s Team for use on this recently launched site. They didn’t just want the standard portraits however…they had a concept in mind to push the status of the club’s image even higher. With a few samples emailed over to our studio, Kevin and I worked together to build upon the “gritty” look they were after. After a few hours of playing around with some basic techniques, and then expanding on this to create something as original as we could, we had the basis for what became the final shots we submitted to Nathan and his designers for approval.

studeo553.jpg
(Looks easy doesn’t it? Go ahead…try it!)

Once they saw the preliminary samples, they immediately expanded their request to include similar processing on many of the shots Kevin had done over the past few years. I was a little hesitant at first as the older shots weren’t lit with this style in mind, but luckily the images worked perfectly and were able to fit in right along side the new shots.

studeo552.jpg

We’re very happy we were able to so closely match the concept they had in mind. It’s also been great to expand into a different style of Ad Work. So thank you to Nathan and everyone at Studeo 55 for working with us towards this great new look for your site. If you haven’t checked it out yet, go to www.studeo55.ca and see what all the hype is about. No matter how you like to get your workout, they have a trainer that specializes in that…seriously.

studeo554.jpg

Here’s a note from Founder Nathan Mellalieu about the launch:
Hello everyone,

We have worked really hard creating our new website and creative identity.  We have created a great team here in which we have not had any turnover in 8 months (astonishing considering our industry and our size)  We are proud of this team and have decided to make them a huge part of our identity.  Everyone in these pictures is a client or a team mate here at studeo55.  As you scan our team you will find 2 world champions, more then 5 national champions, two National team members, 2 professional dancers, 1 golden gloves champion and the list goes on.  All in all more then 30 unique stories make up who we are.  Please enjoy the site and the team that makes this place so special for so many people.

Yours truly,

Nathan Mellalieu

“Please, sign me up to make bad American tv!” // Client Updates: Sabrina Prada

Hi Friends, Sabrina here…

It has been as few as two weeks or as long as two years that you have known about my relocation from Seattle to Vancouver. I thank you for every moment of encouragement you have given me along the way, and I wanted to let you know a few exciting bits of news:
Big news:
–I now have an agent in Vancouver, Mel Hawthorne of ACT Talent. I’m delighted that she invited me to join her roster and I’m eager for us both to make money together! Some folks may be a bit burnt out on making “bad American tv” but I’m the exception… “Please, sign me up to make bad American tv!”
–I was elected to the Board (and even the Executive Committee, as Secretary!) of Women in Film and Television Vancouver (WIFTV) and I’m honored to join such a motivated group of women in making the world a better place, particularly through advancing and celebrating women in screen-based media. A big thanks to Flash Forward 2007 for motivating my involvement!
–My family and I are moving to Vancouver officially by the end of this month, as our sons will start school at Kitsilano Secondary School and Trafalgar Elementary, just after Labour Day.

Some dates:
–Thanks to my involvement with WIFTV, my social calendar is definitely picking up, in fact, I’m working on two big events, 2007 Martini Madness and the 2008 Spotlight Awards Gala and Silent Auction. Read on for those dates!
–Martini Madness is an industry party that celebrates the kick-off of the Vancouver International Film Festival. This year it will be held at Macaroni Grill on Wednesday, September 26, 7pm-midnight. I am recruiting actor-volunteers who would like to dress up as a “screen legend” (we have sponsorship from a local costume company) and mingle interactively with the crowd, adding ambience and helping us sell raffle tickets. If you know someone who could pass for Humphrey Bogart or Vivian Leigh, and who has the right kind of personality for socializing (and would like the attention and exposure to 800+ industry folks….) have them contact me ASAP! We already have a “Marilyn Monroe” but we’re definitely looking for more characters!
–The Spotlight Awards Gala is still in the planning stages, so I don’t want to reveal too much yet, but you can definitely set aside March 6-8, 2008 for the WIFTV Film Festival which culminates in the Awards Gala on Saturday, March 8! We are moving the venue for 2008 and it’s bound to be urban, chic and a “Great Adventure.”

Dates of immediate importance:
–Tonight (August 2) is a special edition of the Cold Reading Series, recently re-ignited at a new location (the Beaumont Studios), which will benefit WIF. It will feature scripts by WIF members, hot-off-the-presses info about our activities and (probably) little gifts and give-away goodies. I’ve been promised the beer will be cold!
–Monday, August 6 – this is the date by which we would like to know where we will live in Vancouver, so I am putting the word out to all my Vancouver friends, since word-of-mouth is the best way. We have a few leads (and appointments) via Craig’s List and the UBC housing community board, but if you have heard of anyone who is suddenly in the position of having to rent a 3-bedroom apartment or house (dog-friendly preferred) I’D LOVE TO KNOW! Our geographical area is west of Granville, east of Alma, south of 4th, and north of 41st. Kitsilano/Kerrisdale, in other words, with some flexibility about location and price.

Thanks for reading! As I said at the start, I’m grateful for everyone’s encouragement, as we have undertaken a remarkable task of relocating to a new city AND country. Thank you for being so welcoming!

Cheers!
Sabrina
