Hi Friends, Sabrina here…
It has been as few as two weeks or as long as two years that you have known about my relocation from Seattle to Vancouver. I thank you for every moment of encouragement you have given me along the way, and I wanted to let you know a few exciting bits of news:
Big news:
–I now have an agent in Vancouver, Mel Hawthorne of ACT Talent. I’m delighted that she invited me to join her roster and I’m eager for us both to make money together! Some folks may be a bit burnt out on making “bad American tv” but I’m the exception… “Please, sign me up to make bad American tv!”
–I was elected to the Board (and even the Executive Committee, as Secretary!) of Women in Film and Television Vancouver (WIFTV) and I’m honored to join such a motivated group of women in making the world a better place, particularly through advancing and celebrating women in screen-based media. A big thanks to Flash Forward 2007 for motivating my involvement!
–My family and I are moving to Vancouver officially by the end of this month, as our sons will start school at Kitsilano Secondary School and Trafalgar Elementary, just after Labour Day.
Some dates:
–Thanks to my involvement with WIFTV, my social calendar is definitely picking up, in fact, I’m working on two big events, 2007 Martini Madness and the 2008 Spotlight Awards Gala and Silent Auction. Read on for those dates!
–Martini Madness is an industry party that celebrates the kick-off of the Vancouver International Film Festival. This year it will be held at Macaroni Grill on Wednesday, September 26, 7pm-midnight. I am recruiting actor-volunteers who would like to dress up as a “screen legend” (we have sponsorship from a local costume company) and mingle interactively with the crowd, adding ambience and helping us sell raffle tickets. If you know someone who could pass for Humphrey Bogart or Vivian Leigh, and who has the right kind of personality for socializing (and would like the attention and exposure to 800+ industry folks….) have them contact me ASAP! We already have a “Marilyn Monroe” but we’re definitely looking for more characters!
–The Spotlight Awards Gala is still in the planning stages, so I don’t want to reveal too much yet, but you can definitely set aside March 6-8, 2008 for the WIFTV Film Festival which culminates in the Awards Gala on Saturday, March 8! We are moving the venue for 2008 and it’s bound to be urban, chic and a “Great Adventure.”
Dates of immediate importance:
–Tonight (August 2) is a special edition of the Cold Reading Series, recently re-ignited at a new location (the Beaumont Studios), which will benefit WIF. It will feature scripts by WIF members, hot-off-the-presses info about our activities and (probably) little gifts and give-away goodies. I’ve been promised the beer will be cold!
–Monday, August 6 – this is the date by which we would like to know where we will live in Vancouver, so I am putting the word out to all my Vancouver friends, since word-of-mouth is the best way. We have a few leads (and appointments) via Craig’s List and the UBC housing community board, but if you have heard of anyone who is suddenly in the position of having to rent a 3-bedroom apartment or house (dog-friendly preferred) I’D LOVE TO KNOW! Our geographical area is west of Granville, east of Alma, south of 4th, and north of 41st. Kitsilano/Kerrisdale, in other words, with some flexibility about location and price.
Thanks for reading! As I said at the start, I’m grateful for everyone’s encouragement, as we have undertaken a remarkable task of relocating to a new city AND country. Thank you for being so welcoming!
Cheers!
Sabrina
