Kevin Clark’s Cross Canada Headshots Tour 2009

This summer/fall, Kevin and Trish will be hitting the road for a tour across the country to shoot headshots for actors who wouldn’t normally be able to make it out to Vancouver to see us. We’ve also created a special new tour package that we hope is more affordable for those working in slower areas. This is the first year we’ve tried something like this, so we’re really excited to get out there.

Since some of these cities already know of us and some of them don’t, we’ll need your help to spread the word. Once we can get a good sized group of people interested in each city, we’ll pack up and come out your way. So if you are out of town and want headshots that will help you stand out in your crowd, give us a call and we’ll work on getting out to your city.

This doesn’t mean we’ll be neglecting our Vancouver clients at all. The tour schedule will most likely be broken up depending on how busy we get in certain areas, so we’ll probably only be gone for a few days at a time until we cover every city that has actors interested in shooting with us.

We’ve even made an official tour poster! Anyone interested in spreading the word in their city can contact us and we’ll send you some posters to help advertise at your local acting schools and agencies.

Tour Poster

It’s a bit hard to read online here, so here’s the full poster content for anyone that’s interested:

All inclusive headshots for actors
Two hour shoot sessions
Hair + MakeUp included
only $450 plus tax
Two looks / outfit changes
Private online profile to view proofs
Your shoot also includes
Special affordable tour rates
Coaching and consultation
(so you can get great shots even if you’re just starting out)
Retouching included with all repro orders
Delivery anywhere in the world
Awesome service (really it’s almost embarrassing)
From the shoot day with Kevin and Trish,
to the weeks, months and years after with our full time studio team,
We’re always here to help.

Limited space in each city
Book soon to reserve your spot
This is the first time we’ve done this
So we need your help to spread the word
Tell your agent, your friends, your acting coach
Tell your garbage man (he’s probably an actor too)
Facebook, blog and twitter about it
Scream about it on the bus like a crazy person
(if you see anyone you know, just say you’re researching a role)
But don’t forget to book your spot while you’re doing all this
Contact the Studio

toll free 1 (866) 669 7573

We’re really looking forward to meeting many new people in these new places. If you have any questions about the tour schedule, just send us an email or call us anytime.

Photography Studio Rental: Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics Yaletown/Downtown

The 2010 Winter Olympics are soon going to be arriving in our lovely city of Vancouver. Since our studio is right in the hub of all the downtown/yaletown area, only a half block from BC place and another few steps to GM Place (or “Canada Hockey Place” as I hear it will be renamed for the games), we’re thinking that our area is going to be quite busy during those few weeks the games are here and a perfect location for someone who needs to be shooting in studio during that time.

So, here’s the plan:
We’d like to rent our live/work studio out to a photographer that needs a place to shoot and since the studio has full living amenities, possibly even live, right in the heart of the Olympic action downtown. Preferably renting it for week long chunks, or the whole 2-3 weeks (or more) at once if someone needs the space the whole time. At this point, we’re pretty flexible. All we ask is that the renter has the appropriate insurance. We’ve got photos covering every inch of the studio so you can get a great idea of the layout, but here are also some details that the photos wouldn’t show.

Studio Details:
We’ve got photos covering every inch of the studio so you can get a great idea of the layout, but here are also some details that the photos wouldn’t show.

- Legal Live/Work space.
- 1200 sqft studio space (not including lofts).
- 2 lofts great for storage or even a bed so your living area doesn’t get in the way of shooting.
- 12ft ceilings.
- Main floor entrance.
- Urban Industrial Style.
- Great Cafe right next door with a huge variety of meals, soup, coffee and snacks.
- Starbucks and 7-11 convenience store (24hrs) right across the street.
- Only a few steps to BC Place Stadium and a few more to GM Place Stadium.
- Cargo bay door opens directly onto your parking spot in the service alley.
- Secure building entrance and monitored security system in the studio.
- Lots of large windows on the cargo bay door wall which let in a great amount of natural light. Soft reflected light in the morning and early afternoon. Direct sunlight in the afternoon.
- Hot water radiators keep the studio very warm in the winter and if it is a hotter day we do have two AC units available.
- A large variety of lighting equipment to cover almost any size shoot (email us for details).
- Our exact address is 857 Beatty Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Inquiries and Rates:
Anyone interested, please inquire with us with the dates you’d like to reserve the studio and we’ll get back to you to discuss the rental rates. You can reach us Monday to Friday in any of the following ways:
phone: (604) 669-7577
toll free:  1 (866) 669-7573
email: info@kevinclarkstudios.com

Why don’t we want to be in the studio during the Olympics?
Well since we shoot mainly actor headshots and food photography, we’d don’t expect that we’ll be able to benefit fully from this great location. In fact with how busy the area will be, it may be difficult for our usual clients to get to us. But another photographer that has clients already involved in the Olympics will be a perfect fit. They might even be another local photographer that just wants to get closer to the action.

Studio Photos:
And without further delay, here are photos covering all aspects of our studio from the front entrance to the back service alley.

As mentioned, we’re quite flexible with booking times at this point, so contact us anytime and we’ll figure out the details.

Happy Valentines Day // Mongolia Bound

Happy Valentines day to all our friends, collegues and clients. Jake, our studio mascot asked us to pass on this Valentine to everyone we’ve gotten to know over the years. This was Jake’s 4th photoshoot in as many months and we believe he may be getting an ego about it. Anyone interested in hosting a “Pug-Ego-Intervention” party, please contact the studio.

JakeValentine

We were of course inspired by one of the best animated characters of recent years, Puss n’ Boots from the Shrek films, when deciding which direction to go in photoshop. Jake has a face just made for hilarious enhancement. But don’t get me wrong, Andrea’s pug needs absolutely no enhancement to his natural personality. Just classic.

In other Andrea and Jake news, and coming back to Jakes first big studio shoot late last year…Jake and Andrea have been published! Photoshop User Magazine recently did an in-depth profile on good friend of the studio David DuChemin. David’s been shooting some amazing travel photography over who knows how many years. His travel work can be found on his website www.pixelatedimage.com along with his many clever ramblings and travel journals on his own blog through the same site. Of course Andrea and Jake do not quite qualify as travel photography, though meeting Jake is quite a worldly experience (but as we all know, he would be nothing without Andrea!). But David has a second venture taking place at home here in BC: people and their dogs. His captivating work, including his shoot with Andrea and Jake, and of course Kevin’s daughter Hunter and their little white fluff ball Blue, can be found at www.redcollar.ca. Here’s a tearsheet of on page of the article from last month’s Photoshop User Magazine feature David’s Work.

AndreaJakeMag475

I’m sure they’ll be knocking down his door again soon too. David has just left on a journey to photograph in Mongolia. Here’s hoping he packs more than just a wind breaker. Good luck David, can’t wait to see the shots from your trip.

Welcome to the New Blog of Kevin Clark Photography

Thanks for reading our first blog post! Kevin has been wanting to get a blog up and running for quite some time now, but unfortunately he’s kept extremely busy shooting Food, Lifestyle and Headshots. I’m Kevin’s Studio Manager, Rob and therefore I’ll be your host for most of this blogging adventure. But just in case someone else does have a chance to make a post, lets give a quick overview of who you might run into.

Kevin Clark. The photographer and lighting master, owner, business visionary, original photoshop guru and the guy that supplies me with all the nice gadgets that make my job easier (easier?…yes, easier). Kevin’s been in this game for 17+ years and still finds ways to improve his work and keep his headshots looking dynamic. Most of his work comes out of Vancouver where we’re based, but with years of travel experience Kevin is willing to go anywhere for the right shoot.

Tricia Clark. The make-up artist, hair stylist, art director, posing instructor, fashion consultant, time management engineer and of course Kevin’s wife of many years. Trish is also the one that helps persuade Kevin not to buy so many gadgets so that we can be around for a few more years. A perfect balance.

Andrea Robertson. Originally brought on soley for administrative purposes, Andrea’s background in photography and digital environments continues to prove extremely helpful as we abuse her abilities to the utmost! She’s our resident digital cosmetic surgeon and the Queen of proofs. How soon do you want your proofs back?? Be nice! I’m not excluded from that…she prints out my cheque!

Keith Race. Keith is a photographer himself, but helps us out by retouching from home when we’re on Actor overload. A fine combination of sqeed and quality. I’ve never met Keith yet as he lives on the Island, but hopefully he’ll be down for a visit sometime soon….he types emails in a very friendly and nice way. aww.

Robert Marks. That’s me. I’m Rob. I’m the dentist. As is often needed, drastic surgery must take place within photoshop and so far I haven’t found anything I can’t make look real. Missing a tooth? No problem. Does your hair kind of look like a mullet from that angle? Done (I can also add mullets on special request). I’m around to make sure everything gets done. And I’m also around to sort of think up new things that later on I will need to make sure get done. And lets not forget my most important role…Studio DJ. I haven’t thought up a cool DJ name yet, but I will accept requests. Kevin’s and Trish’s daughter thinks I’m weird. Correction…”very very very very very very very very very weird”. Seems to me like they’ve raised a sharp kid. Let’s hope for my sake the other two aren’t so keen. But that’s enough about me, I just realized I made my paragraph the longest. All the more reason for the rest of the team to login and add their own comments.

I’ve only been around a short while as Kevin’s Studio Manager. I took over for Ariana who couldn’t resist her travel bug any longer and is definitely missed. Lots of things have changed in the last few months while I’ve been around. Hey! We’re blogging now! And within about a month, we’ll be launching the new Kevin Clark Order Center. A revolutionary site designed by Steven Luscher of www.stevenluscherdesign.com for our clients to order all their proofs, repros and more all from one site directly through our studio. Here’s a sneak preview screen shot of the site:

Once again, thanks for reading our first blog post. We’ll be on here often with updates and whatever else we can think of that might be of interest. Please feel free to leave comments or ask questions. If you’d like to check out Kevin’s work, you can visit his sites in the blogroll to the right. Or if you’d like to book a shoot or a consultation with Kevin, just call the studio at (604) 669 -7577 or email us at info@kevinclarkphotography.com.
