Rookie Blue’s Travis Milne Pays A Visit

Travis Milne

You may have noticed the new law in town as of June 24. Rookie Blue, what’s been described as the Grey’s Anatomy of cop shows, has been airing on Global. The series, set and shot in Toronto, airs on Thursday nights on Global and ABC and follows five recent Police Academy grads as they navigate the intricacies of city policing.

Travis Milne

Travis Milne, who plays rookie cop Chris Diaz, came into the studio for a shoot bringing co-star Missy Peregrym with him for company. Though Travis is originally from northern Alberta, he comes to see Kevin when it’s time for new head shots. We’re sure you’re all already glued to your TV when the show is on here, but it’s also launching in just a week in Australia, Brazil, the Czech, Malaysia and Slovakia!

School’s Out

School’s out for summer, but McKinley High will live on in our hearts until the next season of Glee resumes in the Fall. Especially because we’ve got something better than a class yearbook—headshots of Cory Monteith, who joined the cast of the hit series as Finn Hudson, star quarterback of McKinley’s football team and unlikely member of the glee club.

But just because class is not in session, it doesn’t mean Cory’s not busy. He’s currently filming Monte Carlo with Selena Gomez (of the Disney Channel fame), slated to be released in February of next year. In the film, he plays boyfriend to Selena’s character, who gets mistaken for a well-known socialite while vacationing with her best friend in Paris.

Much to Tricia’s great joy (she’s a huge Glee fan) Kevin has shot Victoria-raised Cory a number of times, most recently just before he started filming Glee. No stranger to the acting business, Monteith began his career appearing in the Stargate franchise and Smallville, and by all reports, he’s not only a talented actor and singer, he’s also an all-round swell guy.

Changes

Well, hello there.

It’s been a while since we’ve posted here at the Kevin Clark Studios Blog. That’s because we’ve had some ch-ch-ch-changes. First of all, I’ve joined the team. I’m “the new girl”—AnnMarie MacKinnon. I joined the team back at the end of April as the part time studio administratrix, wrangling paperwork into submission and color correcting headshots for all the beautiful people that come into the studio. I’m also your new host for the blog, keeping you up-to-date on all things Kevin, Tricia, Andrea (and Jake the Pug).

But enough about me. There are other changes afoot as well.

From August 1st – 15th inclusive the studio will be closed for renovation. That’s right–we’re giving the shop a little bit of a facelift. This means we won’t be doing any shoots inside during this time and we won’t be filling any repro orders. But it also means that when we open again mid-month, we’ll have a saucy new look (and Andrea and I don’t have to sit in a cave of “institutional beige”). We can’t wait!

Over the next few weeks we’ll be catching you up on all the studio news—from client updates (guess who’s been on Glee?) and pumping iron (or at least photos of other people pumping iron) to magic seeds , pirates and vampires. So stay tuned for more regular missives!

Beverage Photography…it’s been awhile, but we’re back!

The past few years for Kevin have been a steady focus on plated food on his  website www.kevinclarkedibles.com. Everything from pizza to gourmet entrees to candy. But we all felt it was time to get some new beverage shots under the studio’s belt.

As luck would have it, one of our headshot clients was chatting with Trish while getting her hair and makeup done and mentioned that her family owned a old fashioned botanically brewed soda pop company. Not long later, she brought in several of the bottles for us to sample and also photograph. It was perfect timing, especially since the design and packaging of their product was very classic and unique for this time.

When photographing the product, Kevin set out to recreate the classic yet industrial feel that the bottles were designed with. Something that we hadn’t tried with drink shots as of yet. Here’s the results of that shoot.

Fentimenstest-WEB

As soon as this shot was complete, it was already time for more as Kevin aimed his camera at his personal favourite, Scotch. This Balvenie shot (below) was meant to compliment the Fentimans shot, but also have it’s own feel as the product itself requires a different style to convey the proper message and hit the right market.
Balvenie-comp-WEB

Since then we’ve got plans to shoot some wine (that’s happening today in fact) and also some beer which we’ll be posting to the www.kevinclarkedibles.com website soon. These two shots can be found there along with other new work you may not have seen if you haven’t visited in awhile.

The Fentimans Soda’s are currently chilling in the fridge and we’ll be giving them a taste test later this afternoon. I bet they’re going taste just as good as the bottles look cool.

Photography Studio Rental: Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics Yaletown/Downtown

The 2010 Winter Olympics are soon going to be arriving in our lovely city of Vancouver. Since our studio is right in the hub of all the downtown/yaletown area, only a half block from BC place and another few steps to GM Place (or “Canada Hockey Place” as I hear it will be renamed for the games), we’re thinking that our area is going to be quite busy during those few weeks the games are here and a perfect location for someone who needs to be shooting in studio during that time.

So, here’s the plan:
We’d like to rent our live/work studio out to a photographer that needs a place to shoot and since the studio has full living amenities, possibly even live, right in the heart of the Olympic action downtown. Preferably renting it for week long chunks, or the whole 2-3 weeks (or more) at once if someone needs the space the whole time. At this point, we’re pretty flexible. All we ask is that the renter has the appropriate insurance. We’ve got photos covering every inch of the studio so you can get a great idea of the layout, but here are also some details that the photos wouldn’t show.

Studio Details:
We’ve got photos covering every inch of the studio so you can get a great idea of the layout, but here are also some details that the photos wouldn’t show.

- Legal Live/Work space.
- 1200 sqft studio space (not including lofts).
- 2 lofts great for storage or even a bed so your living area doesn’t get in the way of shooting.
- 12ft ceilings.
- Main floor entrance.
- Urban Industrial Style.
- Great Cafe right next door with a huge variety of meals, soup, coffee and snacks.
- Starbucks and 7-11 convenience store (24hrs) right across the street.
- Only a few steps to BC Place Stadium and a few more to GM Place Stadium.
- Cargo bay door opens directly onto your parking spot in the service alley.
- Secure building entrance and monitored security system in the studio.
- Lots of large windows on the cargo bay door wall which let in a great amount of natural light. Soft reflected light in the morning and early afternoon. Direct sunlight in the afternoon.
- Hot water radiators keep the studio very warm in the winter and if it is a hotter day we do have two AC units available.
- A large variety of lighting equipment to cover almost any size shoot (email us for details).
- Our exact address is 857 Beatty Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Inquiries and Rates:
Anyone interested, please inquire with us with the dates you’d like to reserve the studio and we’ll get back to you to discuss the rental rates. You can reach us Monday to Friday in any of the following ways:
phone: (604) 669-7577
toll free:  1 (866) 669-7573
email: info@kevinclarkstudios.com

Why don’t we want to be in the studio during the Olympics?
Well since we shoot mainly actor headshots and food photography, we’d don’t expect that we’ll be able to benefit fully from this great location. In fact with how busy the area will be, it may be difficult for our usual clients to get to us. But another photographer that has clients already involved in the Olympics will be a perfect fit. They might even be another local photographer that just wants to get closer to the action.

Studio Photos:
And without further delay, here are photos covering all aspects of our studio from the front entrance to the back service alley.

KC Talent Profile: Andrew Jenkins and Calum Worthy in “Stormworld”

It’s been awhile since we’ve had a client profile on the blog. Too long in fact! Coincidentally, we’ve taken headshots for two actors that are closely connected in the same project over the last few months. The show is called “Stormworld” and the two in question are Andrew Jenkins and Calum Worthy. The show, which is set in Vancouver and featured on the space network, is an sci-fi/adventure/comedy about two buddies transported into a parallel reality while joyriding on a fancy new boat. In the new world they run into all sorts of obstacles as they fight to find the way back home. The locations and concepts are out of this world and the two boys work great together on screen. One thing is for sure, they are both great guys. We all had a blast at the studio during both of their shoots and they were both great in front of the camera.

Andrew and Calum

As I hear it from Andrew, travelling to all the unbelievable locations is a great perk for this gig. At this point I’m sure both him and Calum have had enough in-flight meals to last them a lifetime. Especially considering that the flight schedules don’t always line up in the most timely manner. Andrew told me of a particular trip to Perth —

We ended up missing a couple flights because of delays and so we ended up going from: Vancouver to LA to Brisbane to Sydney to Adelaide to Perth. Six planes and over 40 hours just to get to Perth, what a crazy time!

Besides all the travel benefits of working on the show, Andrew and Calum have become close friends ever since meeting in auditions and it definitely shows on screen. Seems like they have a blast. Stormworld is into it’s second season now so check out the boys on your television screen, or you can click the video player below to watch episodes from Season One and Behind the Scenes footage from the show.

And just for fun, you can also watch an quick interview with Calum on “The Circuit” about his work on Stormworld by clicking this clip here:

Applied Arts Award 2009

As many of our clients know, Kevin has been an avid food photographer for almost as many years as he’s been shooting headshots. In that time, just as with headshots, his food photography has evolved and improved constantly with new concepts and lighting methods.

We’re pleased to announce that our latest series “Baked Greatness” will appear in the 2009 Applied Arts Magazine Awards Annual with a win in the self-promotion category. Here’s a shot of the series that was awarded in case you’re interested, or need some inspiration for a snack.

Kevin Clark Photography Applied Arts Award 2009 Baked Greatness

Kevin has been more inspired than ever lately to create images that have emotional impact, even if they are just simple shots of bread like these. We all work together to study the images during and after shoot to see what we can do to bring the most out of them. These are some of our favourite shots as of late, which seem to capture a nearly renaissance era feel.

Applied Arts Awards Annual is one of the largest and most well respected awards publications in the visual arts community, so we are of course honoured to be recognized along with all the other great talent in the book. The awards issue will be released sometime in May, so make sure to buy a copy or browse through one at your local magazine stand to see these images in print. Once the issue is released, you’ll also be able to see the images on their website at www.appliedartsmag.com. But until then, last years winners are still up and definitely worth browsing through as there are some great shots in that group as well.

Keeping up with the momentum, we came up with a plan to shoot another simple product…candy!! This shoot definitely needed a different feel than the breads, so we went in the completely opposite direction, getting most vibrant colour and dynamic motion possible for a static subject. It’s also something our studio has never shot before, so we’re always happy to do something brand new.

Candy - 4up

We’d love to hear what you have to say about this new work of Kevin’s. And if you’d like to see more of our food photography, please visit our food site at www.kevinclarkEDIBLES.com.

Introducing the KEVIN CLARK PHOTOGRAPHY ORDER CENTER

Well. It seems the time has finally come to introduce what is now an old friend to Kevin, myself and the rest of the studio. Before I get to the history of this project, let’s start right off the top with what the “Kevin Clark Photography Order Center” (KCPOC) is any why you should keep reading this, what I assume will be epic, blog post.
The KCPOC serves two main functions –

ONE:
It is an interactive proofing system.
Starting February 1st, 2009, we’ll be uploading your proofs to a private profile that you will have 24/7 access to. Only you or those you give your login info to (like your agent, or family members) will be able to view your proofs. You can mark down your favourite images (FAVES) anytime and the system will remember your selections everytime you return to your profile. If you change your mind on your faves, simply deselect them. This is very handy as your agent can also login and mark down their faves so you can quickly see which ones you should consider before ordering.

TWO: It is an interactive repro ordering system.
Once you’ve reviewed your proofs, you can order anything you need through your profile, (I’ll elaborate further in later sections of this post) including 8×10 or 4×6 custom designed repros, high-res or low-res digital files, CDs of your proofs, 4×6 printed proofs. The system even remembers the custom repros you build and order so you can easily re-order the exact same repro design again at a discounted re-order price.

The gem of this website is the interactive repro builder. Once you’ve selected your favourite images, the site will easily walk you through selection of border, font, quantity and more, with all the changes applied directly to your image, right before your eyes.

THREE:  I know I said two and this isn’t really a “function”, but I have to mention this. Retouching is included with ALL repro orders!! So you’ll be saving money since you don’t have to pay both the studio for retouching and the repro lab for printing. It’s all taken care of through the KCPOC!

(While we’re on the topic of orders…this system is 100% secure as it does not ask for or store any financial information to complete an order. All order values are for reference only.  To receive payment for your orders, we only take credit card numbers by phone, or you are welcome to come to the studio directly to pay with credit card, debit or cash. We would have loved a secure online payment program, however it is very difficult and costly to implement and will have to wait for a future release of the site. )

So lets get to the details. This site is actually pretty self explanatory once you’re inside and playing around. However I wanted to write something up for those that possibly haven’t shot with us yet and are wondering what sort of services we offer. We hope that this is just one more reason that you’ll choose our studio to get your acting headshots.

With that said, I should mention that the KCPOC is only for our Actor clients. Because the system is based around repro orders, we’ve decided that our corporate and musician clients are better of not being confused by a system that is not geared towards them. Perhaps down the road a new site will be possible that encompasses all our clients, but we’ll have to take it one step at a time for now.

STEP ONE: Login
Once your photoshoot is uploaded to the KCPOC, you will instantly be sent an automated email with your login details. This should speed up the time from your shoot to seeing your proofs by at least a day. You won’t have to arrange a time to pick up a CD at the studio, it will just be in your inbox waiting for you when you get home. And don’t worry if you lose your login info. The studio always has access to your profile so we can reset your password anytime you need us to.login screen
Once you login. This is what you’ll see. The Ordering System Overview page. This is the homepage where all your ordering begins. You’ll see the green welcome box on your first login and then after that just your ordering options. We’ve tried to make everything as simple as possible.overview page main new2
STEP TWO: Review your contact info
The first thing you’ll want to do when you get to the Overview page is review your contact information which is viewable on the right side of the screen. If you change your email address, make sure it is 100% correct as this is the way the site will contact you. If the address is incorrect you won’t get the auto-notifications the site sends you during the ordering process.

personal info 2

STEP THREE: View Your Photos!
This is the whole reason you logged in! You can view your photos simply by pressing the large button near the top of the screen that looks like the image below. You can also use the thin green menu bar at the top. You’ll notice there is always a button there which reads “view photos.” Same deal.
view photos
Okay. Now you’re inside, and you should see something kinda like this (exactly like this actually, except with your photos…and your photos won’t be blurred out digitally). You have a few different options for navigation through your images. First, you’ll notice the thumbnails to the left. You can click on these and a larger preview will open to the right of the selected thumbnail…not rocket science yet, I know. Below your thumbnails you’ll notice numbers for the total number of pages and images in your shoot. The arrows to the left and right of these numbers change the page your on in your thumbnail library. To the left and right of the large preview window, you’ll also notice two smaller arrows. These simply allow you to change one image at a time through your whole library of images. It will change the page for you when you get to the end of a thumbnail set. By now you’ve probably noticed the little “hearts” below each of your thumbnails. Let’s get right into that.
view photos main new
STEP FOUR: Select Your Favourite Images (FAVES)

This is where some of the smarts of the KCPOC come into play. Simply click the little heart under your thumbnail
ad fave 1
or click “ADD TO FAVES” below the preview window when an image comes up that you like.
ad fave 2
Don’t worry, add as many faves as you want. You can always narrow it down later by removing them.  The faves you select have no impact on your orders. You are never obligated to order anything and you can even order an image that is not part of your faves list if you really want to (but why would you?). Now that you’ve gone through all your proofs and marked all your faves with hearts, what’s next?

STEP FIVE: Review Your FAVES
I know, you probably already saw it like years ago. Directly above your thumbnails is a toggle button. “FAVES ONLY” which does exactly what you think it does by showing only the images you’ve marked with a heart icon. This way you can compare quickly and narrow down your absolute most best-est faves.
faves only view
Once you’re finished in here. You’re either ready to order your repros, or you want to wait for awhile before making a print order. Those exact two options are on the very bottom right of the screen. Take your time. Your profile will remain online as long as you need so you can order or re-order today or years from now. Both of these options bring you back to slightly different versions of the Overview Page. One that urges your next move if you are ready to order. Another that says “Hey man, it’s cool. Let’s just hang out for now and get to know each other.” The next step only comes when you are ready, but for the sake of this blog post, let’s pretend you are!

STEP SIX: Make an Order!
PT1: Order Repros
So you are now back on the overview page wondering. What should I order? Most of our clients will primarily use the “Order Repros” module, especially on the first visit.

order repros

As I mentioned above, this module is the gem of this website. It walks you through your custom repro design using your photo and updating it each step as you go along. It will add the border you select around your image, add the font/typeface showing your actual name onto the border. It will change the size of your image depending on if you select an 8×10 or 4×6 postcard repro. It will change from colour, b&w, or sepia. There are still a few limitations to the system like cropping and type placement, so of course we’ve added a last step where you can add special instructions to let us know the details of your custom repro design.

I should mention again that retouching is included with all repro orders. And since the studio still does all the retouching in-house, we’ve designed the site to automatically send your retouching approval proofs to you when they are complete as well. When you receive the email, simply login and you will be prompted to review your retouching. If approved, simply hit approve, if there are changes, simply hit “reject” and then leave us some details notes about what you’d like changed.

PT2: Re-Order Repros
Before we move on to the other order modules. Let’s cover “Re-Order Repros.”Anytime you make a first-time repro order on our system, the KCPOC system will remember that exact repro design, complete with the border and font you originally selected. When you enter the Re-Order Repro’s module, you’ll be shown only a large thumbnail list of your previous repro orders to select from. Simply pick the one you’d like to reorder and continue through to checkout (or order multiple re-orders). All re-orders are discounted from the first time repro price since all the production work is complete. The only thing to do is look up the old completed file at the studio and send it for print.

re order repros

PT2: Order Proofs on CD
Simply put, if you prefer to have a CD copy of your proofs instead or in addition to your online profile, you can order one very easily here.

order cd proofs

PT3: Order Digital Files
Any repros you order include retouching and also a complimentary web image that you can use for Casting Workbook, IMDB, Facebook or any other website or email submission you like. However if you find that you need additional digital files but don’t need to get repros printed of those images, you can order digital files at anytime. You can choose to order retouched high-res files, or low-res files with the option of being retouched or unretouched.

order digital files

PT3 (and PT3.5): Order 4×6 Printed Proofs
The last two modules are virtually the same except for the obvious fact that one is to order colour and the other is to order black and white. Some of our clients prefer to have their proofs printed out so they can sort through them by hand. This is certainly a tried and true method to picking out your favourite shots so we welcome you to order printed proofs at anytime. And those little icon’s beside them? Those are not storm clouds with lightning bolts…they are beautiful flowers. Why? I don’t actually know (evade topic!) Pretty aren’t they?

order print proofs

SHOPPING CART AND MENU BAR
Probably the last thing to cover in detail is the top right area of your screen. The menu bar is pretty simple as it should be with any good site. I don’t think I can possibly explain anything further with that. So I won’t. The shopping cart icon you’ll notice when you have an item or numerous items in your cart. It’s invisible until you add something to it. Clicking it simply pops up the cart itself with it’s current tally of items. You can choose to dismiss the cart so you can add more items or continue to checkout from there. Again, checkout does not gather any payment info, it just tells the studio what you’d like to order so we can contact you for payment details.

shopping cart menu bar

So that brings us about to the end of the Kevin Clark Photography Order Center review. It has literally been years in the making, started from a vision Kevin had of offering his headshot clients the best service available from any studio around. Many thanks to Steven Luscher, who pioneered the design and ground work programming of the site. Thanks also to Jennifer Romita who finalized all the graphical content. And of course, many huge thank you-s to Dave Duchene at Adaptas Labs  who tookover a half finished site, made it his own and stuck it through to the end with Kevin and I as we struggled to figure out how to make it work for the studio and our clients. Heck, he even built the server that the system is running on. You’re our hero Dave.

And as with any site that takes a long time to complete, we already have things we want to change, even on day 1 of the launch! But of course at some point along the way you have to stop and say “enough, let’s get this thing finished”….or you run out of money. Either way, keep your eyes peeled for more exciting changes at Kevin Clark Photography. But not too peeled. Eyes dry out fast. Blink often. It’s good for you.

Happy Halloween // Funny Client Commercials

“Hey Andrea, any plans for Halloween? What are you going to be?” Rob asks casually over his shoulder while retouching an actor’s headshot.

Andrea answers quite simply, “A Bear. And Jake is going to be a Pump-a-kin.” delivered with a proud nod. Amazing. Work rules.

Kevin found a soulmate of a costume with what appeared to be a child’s pirate costume. He even re-punctured his old earring hole for a very authentic silver hoop earring. He got to say “Arrrr” without even sipping coffee, his usual quirky and fun ritual. Trish put together a great Zorro costume, complete with fake forehead eyebrows, a twirly moustache and a makeup mask under her real mask. We insisted on calling her Gorro as she was the female version of the sworded hero. She accepted this eventually. I missed Zombie Walk this year and am one of the world’s largest zombie fans, so I used up my leftover makeup to Zombie-Up for work today and frighten some of our clients. I came in normal, complaining of stomach pains and extreme hunger….heading into the washroom, I put on layer one of zombie transformation, simple discolouration of skin and some slight limping. Then throughout the day revisited my little cave to complete the transformation, full with fake nasty skin and blood. The people at Costco were quite surprised to see me as I returned my crappy little camera I bought last week. I think I actually took the breath out of one guy as I walked around the corner glaring directly at him. Fun!

So luckily we had a not-s0-old client, actor Steven Powell, come to hang out during the shoot of his friend Nolan Fontaine, a movtivational speaker.  Steven was able to snap our group shot all dressed up. Wonderously, for all of Kevin’s expensive equipment, we don’t have a simple 10second timer on the camera! I guess pro’s never want to take a photo of themselves in a group, right Canon? We only took a few shots, but they turned out great….we’ve all had fun all day getting into character. I had to stop Andrea several times from scratching her back on the large wooden post in the lounge area of the studio. I wouldn’t normally mind, but the growling was un—uhhh—BEAR-ABLE! oh that’s right, I said it. So here is the now instantly famous picture of your friendly neighbourhood studio team at Kevin Clark Photography:

Kevin Clark Studio Team Halloween

Clockwise: Kevin ClARRRRk, the pirate. Rob Muuuuaaaaarrrrks, the zombie. Tricia “No Capes!” Clark, Zorro. Andrea Roarrrbertson, the bear. Jake the Pug, aka the Pumpkin.

Thanks to Steve for taking the shot for us. I don’t think he knew what he was in for when he came in today. Steve told while he was here about some commercials he was in for Canadian Direct Insurance. They are hilarious, check them out here. Good work Steve!

Hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween! Boo!

CTV BC News Team, Breast Cancer Run for the Cure, and Vancouver’s Pride Parade.

So, first things first…no it ISN’T possible to have a longer title, I ran out of characters on the blog title input. Actually that’s a lie, but it’s more interesting that way. Written on a blog = fact. Everyone knows that. The next question you may have is how exactly these three things fit together for us folks over here at Kevin Clark Photography. Well, it’s been awhile since the last post, so I suppose things have been building up, but this all sort of hit us with one big awesome wave.

Let’s start with the CTV BC News Team. Is that okay with you? Okay then, I’m going to start with that anyways.  Starting back in April of this year (Tuesday, April 15th 2008 to be exact) Kevin began several days of shooting all the On-Air Talent for CTV BC. And here we are now on Wednesday, August 6th and finally have worked through the entire lot of images and have supplied CTV with 60 total headshots of 31 different personalities. Here are two samples of Pamela Martin and Bill Good. Most of the rest can be found on Kevin’s Headshot website at www.kevinclarkheadshots.com under the “feature” section.

I didn’t have a chance to be at the shoot, but Kevin mentioned that all of the Talent were just great to work with. Being on TV constantly, I’m sure they are used to exactly how they should look in front of the camera. None better than Bill Good, who after looking through his shots, I nick-named “The Rock”. He is amazing, 60 shots apart and his smile is dead on. Sincere, trustworthy and friendly, everything a great anchor should always be. Many of these headshots are already showing up on the CTV BC website (www.ctvbc.ctv.ca) including promos for some shows such as Bill Good’s “A Good Point”.

As for the ‘CIBC Run for the Cure’ supporting Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, we were just finishing up the retouching on the CTV images, Kevin was called out to shoot Pamela Martin one more time for a brochure they were putting together for “Team Pamela”, a training and donation program. They needed it shot and the image produced fast. Luckily Kevin had an opening only a day or two away and we were able to retouch and submit the final image the same day which was quickly sent off to the printers. Kevin shot Pamela on location down at Stanley Park, running on the beach. Always a fun challenge to shoot motion on a bright day and have your lights balance with the Sun. Luckily Pamela was game for anything so we got some great enthusiastic shots of her running repeatedly in the same spot and crossing an imaginary finish line. Kevin’s assistant David DuChemin was great help that day too, wrangling everything together so all Kevin had to worry about was getting the best shot. And as always Kevin got some great looks which turned out to be the perfect shot for the brochure.  *Notice how clean that beautiful Vancouver shoreline looks? You’re welcome.

So if I hadn’t been so busy with these first two topics the last few weeks, I may have actually have had time to blog about them and then the Pride Parade wouldn’t have made it in this post. But since it’s been so busy around here, time just goes by and luckily all of these fit together quite nicely. It just so happens that also because of how busy the studio is, I haven’t been able to spend any quality time with my dear ol’ Mum lately, so I called her up on Saturday afternoon and said “So Mom, how would you like to go to the Pride Parade with me?” And of course my Mom, being the wonderful lady she is, was delighted and said that she was actually already going to ask me. Cutest…Mom…Ever (Sorry Trish!). I’ve always been too busy in past years, but this year with my Mom by my side, we finally had a chance to take part in the amazing celebrations that literally filled Robson Street (and I mean ALL of Robson Street) and several others. We were actually almost in the parade for a short time, but when the bustle near the beginning of the parade cleared out we headed for the sidewalk so we wouldn’t get in the way. And yes, we both caught beads…and then went to Batman! (different blog post altogether). If you haven’t been to the Pride Parade yet, you really should next year. It’s one of the most touching events in Vancouver by far. It’s great to see a half million people come together to support equality.

This brings us to why all these topics are related today. A small group of these half million people were none other than CTV’s Pamela Martin, Colleen Christie, Tamara Taggart and I think I saw Mike Killeen out there too on a giant TV shaped float. There were probably a few more, but those were all I could make out through the crowd. Here is a link to the story on CTV’s website: Read More… There were so many amazing floats and just great people walking through the parade. From the first appearance of the RCMP in the history of the parade, to the revolutionary Sikh float, to the random naked old men, Vancouver really had a chance to show what a great city it is that day. Hopefully we keep it up.
