Kevin Clark’s Cross Canada Headshots Tour 2009

This summer/fall, Kevin and Trish will be hitting the road for a tour across the country to shoot headshots for actors who wouldn’t normally be able to make it out to Vancouver to see us. We’ve also created a special new tour package that we hope is more affordable for those working in slower areas. This is the first year we’ve tried something like this, so we’re really excited to get out there.

Since some of these cities already know of us and some of them don’t, we’ll need your help to spread the word. Once we can get a good sized group of people interested in each city, we’ll pack up and come out your way. So if you are out of town and want headshots that will help you stand out in your crowd, give us a call and we’ll work on getting out to your city.

This doesn’t mean we’ll be neglecting our Vancouver clients at all. The tour schedule will most likely be broken up depending on how busy we get in certain areas, so we’ll probably only be gone for a few days at a time until we cover every city that has actors interested in shooting with us.

We’ve even made an official tour poster! Anyone interested in spreading the word in their city can contact us and we’ll send you some posters to help advertise at your local acting schools and agencies.

Tour Poster

It’s a bit hard to read online here, so here’s the full poster content for anyone that’s interested:

All inclusive headshots for actors
Two hour shoot sessions
Hair + MakeUp included
only $450 plus tax
Two looks / outfit changes
Private online profile to view proofs
Your shoot also includes
Special affordable tour rates
Coaching and consultation
(so you can get great shots even if you’re just starting out)
Retouching included with all repro orders
Delivery anywhere in the world
Awesome service (really it’s almost embarrassing)
From the shoot day with Kevin and Trish,
to the weeks, months and years after with our full time studio team,
We’re always here to help.

Limited space in each city
Book soon to reserve your spot
This is the first time we’ve done this
So we need your help to spread the word
Tell your agent, your friends, your acting coach
Tell your garbage man (he’s probably an actor too)
Facebook, blog and twitter about it
Scream about it on the bus like a crazy person
(if you see anyone you know, just say you’re researching a role)
But don’t forget to book your spot while you’re doing all this
Contact the Studio
info@kevinclarkheadshots.com
toll free 1 (866) 669 7573

We’re really looking forward to meeting many new people in these new places. If you have any questions about the tour schedule, just send us an email or call us anytime.

Photography Studio Rental: Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics Yaletown/Downtown

The 2010 Winter Olympics are soon going to be arriving in our lovely city of Vancouver. Since our studio is right in the hub of all the downtown/yaletown area, only a half block from BC place and another few steps to GM Place (or “Canada Hockey Place” as I hear it will be renamed for the games), we’re thinking that our area is going to be quite busy during those few weeks the games are here and a perfect location for someone who needs to be shooting in studio during that time.

So, here’s the plan:
We’d like to rent our live/work studio out to a photographer that needs a place to shoot and since the studio has full living amenities, possibly even live, right in the heart of the Olympic action downtown. Preferably renting it for week long chunks, or the whole 2-3 weeks (or more) at once if someone needs the space the whole time. At this point, we’re pretty flexible. All we ask is that the renter has the appropriate insurance. We’ve got photos covering every inch of the studio so you can get a great idea of the layout, but here are also some details that the photos wouldn’t show.

Studio Details:
We’ve got photos covering every inch of the studio so you can get a great idea of the layout, but here are also some details that the photos wouldn’t show.

- Legal Live/Work space.
- 1200 sqft studio space (not including lofts).
- 2 lofts great for storage or even a bed so your living area doesn’t get in the way of shooting.
- 12ft ceilings.
- Main floor entrance.
- Urban Industrial Style.
- Great Cafe right next door with a huge variety of meals, soup, coffee and snacks.
- Starbucks and 7-11 convenience store (24hrs) right across the street.
- Only a few steps to BC Place Stadium and a few more to GM Place Stadium.
- Cargo bay door opens directly onto your parking spot in the service alley.
- Secure building entrance and monitored security system in the studio.
- Lots of large windows on the cargo bay door wall which let in a great amount of natural light. Soft reflected light in the morning and early afternoon. Direct sunlight in the afternoon.
- Hot water radiators keep the studio very warm in the winter and if it is a hotter day we do have two AC units available.
- A large variety of lighting equipment to cover almost any size shoot (email us for details).
- Our exact address is 857 Beatty Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Inquiries and Rates:
Anyone interested, please inquire with us with the dates you’d like to reserve the studio and we’ll get back to you to discuss the rental rates. You can reach us Monday to Friday in any of the following ways:
phone: (604) 669-7577
toll free:  1 (866) 669-7573
email: info@kevinclarkstudios.com

Why don’t we want to be in the studio during the Olympics?
Well since we shoot mainly actor headshots and food photography, we’d don’t expect that we’ll be able to benefit fully from this great location. In fact with how busy the area will be, it may be difficult for our usual clients to get to us. But another photographer that has clients already involved in the Olympics will be a perfect fit. They might even be another local photographer that just wants to get closer to the action.

Studio Photos:
And without further delay, here are photos covering all aspects of our studio from the front entrance to the back service alley.

As mentioned, we’re quite flexible with booking times at this point, so contact us anytime and we’ll figure out the details.

Kevin Clark Photography NEW WEBSITE INDUSTRY PORTAL

After many months of selecting and processing hundreds of images and collectively deciding what is website worthy and fighting over which images we loved but just couldn’t fit, we are very pleased to present the Kevin Clark Photography Industry Portal. This landing page allows viewers of Kevin’s work to transport easily between our four different websites which cover his three main specialties in photography plus this blog. The portal can be found just where you’ve always looked for Kevin’s work: www.kevinclarkphotography.com.

Portal Screenshot

The only difference now being that instead of separate limited galleries for each category of Commercial, Food and Headshots, you now will be viewing an entire site similar to the others style-wise yet dedicated to each industry of Kevin’s work.

Commercial Photography links you to www.kevinclarkstudios.com
Edibles (Food Photography) links you to www.kevinclarkedibles.com
Headshots (Actors/Kids/Corporate) links you to www.kevinclarkheadshots.com
And of course the Blog brings you here.

All of the sites have a ton of fresh content, so please take a good browse through and see what we’ve been up to lately. We’d love to hear any feedback you have on the sites, the content, the design or if you just have general comments on life you’d like to share, bring it on.
Thank you so very hugely much to Andrea for helping me retouch all these images and get them ready for the site, and to Kevin for taking some time away from family and shooting to help me decide which ones he wanted to put on display for the world. Go team us!

Thank you all the Realtors and Brokers and everyone else that visited our booth at the 2008 REBGV Conference and Tradeshow at Canada Place. As everyone that chatted with us knows, we were offering a FREE PHOTOSHOOT to one lucky winner with our business card draw. We contacted Ghazal yesterday and she was very excited about her win and hopes to arrange her shoot within the next 2-4 weeks. We of course look forward to working with her as well along with everyone else that we had the pleasure to meet at the Tradeshow.

New Website Launch – Kevin Clark Headshots

Announcing the new dedicated headshot website from Vancouver based photographer Kevin Clark – www.kevinclarkheadshots.com

For the past month or so, we’ve been working hard, scouring through all the images taken in 2007 to select our favorite shots to post on our new headshot website. We’ll still be at www.kevinclarkphotography.com, which is next on the list for an overhaul, but the new home for all of Kevin’s best and most recent headshots is now www.kevinclarkheadshots.com

One of the things we love so much about this new website is how fun it is to scroll through the galleries. Simply click on the gallery title, then to advance through the images all you have to do is click on the image itself and the stream of headshots will stroll by in front of your eyes, one image at a time. We really wanted a site that was dedicated to the headshot industry, and this site is just that. The links page is full of helpful sites for actors, writers, agents and also lots of places to stay or eat if you’re coming in from out of town, or just curious about where to grab lunch after your shoot.

This new site is both more simple, and more informative than the old site. So check out Vancouver’s newest and most dynamic headshots website and let us know what you think. You can email or call us anytime at 604-669-7577 or feel free to leave a comment on this or any other post.

Kevin Clark Photography – Christmas Card EXPOSED!

I must be very careful in the waters I tread in during these next few paragraphs. I’m on a top secret covert mission to leak previously redacted information about the latest Christmas Card you may have recently received from Kevin Clark’s Headshots | Food | Lifestyle Studio in Vancouver, BC. At any moment Kevin may be done his current shoot and characteristically wander over to see what exciting things are happening with Andrea and myself in the Digital Dept. Well, I’ll tell you what’s happening…HIGH TREASON! In the next few minutes, I’ll be showing you exactly what sort of devious plot is underlying this year’s Christmas card. And whatever you do after absorbing this information, do not reveal your source to the man they call Kevin Clark, my Christmas bonus depends on it.

So onto the project we just recently completed and sent out to as many of our friends and clients as we could before we ran out of envelopes, stamps and budget for more of such postal necessities. Every year, Kevin and Trish, his wife and head makeup artist, photograph their three children, Hunter (the oldest and longest haired of the bunch), Nolan and Holden (the two lads of varying ages). The first series of images you see below are the result of an intensive search for the main theme of this year’s project which was something of an apocalyptic feel with the two oldest children playing the part of angels, rescuing the youngest from some imagined sort of certain peril, or at least a slight amount of general discomfort.

kevinclarkchristmas-3backgrounds.jpg

Wondrously enough, the very day after Kevin shot this location, the whole mess was completely hauled away and cleaned up. He barely was able to squeeze his lens through a chain link fence and from what I understand of Kevin’s telling of the shoot details…protect himself and the equipment from several menacing Japanese Whisker Dragons all attacking in dizzying unison (which ironically were tatooed with images of themselves), a fleet of unarmed futuristic superbots and a fairly angry cocker spaniel. Needless to say, stitching these 3 shots together was quite an impressive feat.

The following series is of course the children themselves. Photographed in our extended studio area (the storage locker in the basement). And of course as kids are kids, it took another 3 images just to get decent looking mugs on these little ones that would work for the final shot.

Kevin Clark Headshots Vancouver Christmas - kids

And here of course is the result of that first blend revealing our wonderful amenities and all 3 kids in all their dynamic glory. Take note here that little Hunter’s toes are cut off. Rob is not pleased at this stage, but has many more feet to joyfully extract from other images to replace these.

Kevin Clark Headshots Vancouver Christmas - Kids 2

Of course there was also the small stuff that you don’t really think about (angel wing straps, a plastic sword that needed to look more like an authentic barbarian broadsword etc.) that I could bore you to death over but simultaneously delight myself with repeated ego inflation. But it’s nearly Christmas, so let ALL be merry.

Kevin Clark Headshots Vancouver Christmas - Straps

This next image places the kids into the shot and though it looks fairly close to done as-is, I would say this is only about 1/3 of the way complete.

Kevin Clark Headshots Vancouver Christmas - Merge1

The 2 images below are a sample of the lighting that we created within photoshop to add some ambiance to the environment. I’ve seen a few samples of this technique in the past and from the amount of night photography I’ve been doing lately, I thought it woudl be fun to attempt a recreation of “natural” artificial lighting within a scene.

Kevin Clark Headshots Vancouver Christmas - Lights

This whole project has spanned a few months while we put all the individual pieces together and it’s been great fun and a great challenge. I’m personally quite proud of having the chance to work on this and get something strong with the final result.

Kevin Clark Headshots Vancouver Christmas - Merge 2

And below is the full card with the back folded out. Hopefully you have received yours, but if not we probably don’t have your address!Thank you to Kevin for his great location find and perfect photography, Trish for her work getting these kids to cooperate for yet another year (not to mention creating such photogenic children), and a huge thanks to Andrea for putting the time in to hunt down nearly 1000 addresses and organize the important part of Christmas cards…sending them! We all put in a lot of hard work so here’s hoping that Canada Post didn’t lost all of them in transit.

Kevin Clark Headshots Vancouver Christmas - Final

And of course thanks to everyone we’ve met and worked with this past year. We’ve had a lot of positive changes and development in the studio this year and hope to be able to share more of these projects with you as they come to fruition. Check back soon…next up is a new website launch for Kevin Clark Headshots.

Christmas Gift Idea: Kevin Clark Headshot Gift Certificates For All!!!

Well it sure is getting cold outside, especially for those of us who walk everywhere (*Andrea and I shake our fists at those of you with vehicles). Seems almost like there should be some sort of yearly occasion upon us at any moment. Something to give that giant lit up fake tree that Kevin and Trish bought some purpose. Some explanation for the ridiculous zombie hordes attacking the shopping malls. Well avoid the zombie invasion, get out of those malls and come pay us a visit at the studio. We have plenty of Christmas snacks and Christmas tracks for you to enjoy. We even have a great way for you to tell that special actor or actress (or real estate agent?) in your life how much you care. We’ve put together a little package by request of a few of our clients that will allow you to present your special someone with free headshots for Christmas! And this ain’t no basic corner cutting package (which, by the way, we don’t offer…just for the record), this includes everything a normal photoshoot comes with as in full hair and makeup for 3 different looks, digital proofs on CD in both colour and b/w, and 3 of your favourite shots retouched and uploaded to Rocket Repro for printing (sorry, we can’t cover the printing cost…Santa wouldn’t budge on that one, but I’ve heard if you leave milk and cookies on the counter at Rocket, Martin and his team may be susceptible to giving you genuine Christmas cheer!).

So give us a call or send us an email if you’d like to get the ultimate definition of Christmas giving for someone you know. No pressure. We’re around M-F 9am-6pm so feel free to give us a shout. 604-669-7577 or info@kevinclarkheadshots.com

Headshot Gift Certificate SAMPLE ONLY!! VOID!! THIS MEANS YOU!!

And yes, it gave me a great deal of satisfaction when I was putting that “VOID” graphic on the voucher. Some people bungee jump, other people do charity work…I make silly graphics.

Here’s wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from everyone at Kevin Clark Photography!

This Wonderful Life @ Pacific Theatre

I was lucky enough this weekend to catch an amazing performance of ‘This Wonderful Life’ (aka It’s a Wonderful Life) at the Pacific Theatre here in Vancouver. Dan Amos was the man in the spotlight that night, literally the only one. Kevin photographed the image for the poster some time ago, and since I’d heard about the play, I’ve been wondering how exactly it could be translated into a one man show. I’m no theatre buff, and it was only last Christmas that I watched ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ the movie for the first time, so I just sorta shut my mouth and hoped for the best. Watching it last year was a powerful experience…it was great to finally know what all the fuss was about. Amos’s performance was no less powerful and joyfully enthusiastic. Within a few minutes he had me and the rest of the audience, including my Mum, engrossed in the story and watching it play out in front of us. Aided by his own comical narration and only a handful of simple props, Amos was able to seamlessly transistion between characters and scenes and really bring the story to life on the modest stage, fully deserving the long bout of cheers and applause from the audience at the end. Now I’d love to tell you all about it and you might think, ‘why not, I’ve seen the movie a million times and know the story inside and out, there’s no way you could spoil the performance for me’…but let me tell you, Amos really creates while he’s out there and gives the audience a very unique experience. So…go see it! There are still a few performances left before the season is over and it would be a great early Christmas present for your family. You can check out the theatre’s calendar and buy tickets at www.pacifictheatre.org

This Wonderful Life

And if you’ve never seen the movie, go rent it or buy the DVD, it was remastered and re-released a few years ago. Or if you have 2 hrs to kill right now, here’s the low-res movie posted below found from a link on Google somewhere. Enjoy!
