KC Talent Profile: Andrew Jenkins and Calum Worthy in “Stormworld”

It’s been awhile since we’ve had a client profile on the blog. Too long in fact! Coincidentally, we’ve taken headshots for two actors that are closely connected in the same project over the last few months. The show is called “Stormworld” and the two in question are Andrew Jenkins and Calum Worthy. The show, which is set in Vancouver and featured on the space network, is an sci-fi/adventure/comedy about two buddies transported into a parallel reality while joyriding on a fancy new boat. In the new world they run into all sorts of obstacles as they fight to find the way back home. The locations and concepts are out of this world and the two boys work great together on screen. One thing is for sure, they are both great guys. We all had a blast at the studio during both of their shoots and they were both great in front of the camera.

Andrew and Calum

As I hear it from Andrew, travelling to all the unbelievable locations is a great perk for this gig. At this point I’m sure both him and Calum have had enough in-flight meals to last them a lifetime. Especially considering that the flight schedules don’t always line up in the most timely manner. Andrew told me of a particular trip to Perth —

We ended up missing a couple flights because of delays and so we ended up going from: Vancouver to LA to Brisbane to Sydney to Adelaide to Perth. Six planes and over 40 hours just to get to Perth, what a crazy time!

Besides all the travel benefits of working on the show, Andrew and Calum have become close friends ever since meeting in auditions and it definitely shows on screen. Seems like they have a blast. Stormworld is into it’s second season now so check out the boys on your television screen, or you can click the video player below to watch episodes from Season One and Behind the Scenes footage from the show.

Applied Arts Award 2009

As many of our clients know, Kevin has been an avid food photographer for almost as many years as he’s been shooting headshots. In that time, just as with headshots, his food photography has evolved and improved constantly with new concepts and lighting methods.

We’re pleased to announce that our latest series “Baked Greatness” will appear in the 2009 Applied Arts Magazine Awards Annual with a win in the self-promotion category. Here’s a shot of the series that was awarded in case you’re interested, or need some inspiration for a snack.

Kevin has been more inspired than ever lately to create images that have emotional impact, even if they are just simple shots of bread like these. We all work together to study the images during and after shoot to see what we can do to bring the most out of them. These are some of our favourite shots as of late, which seem to capture a nearly renaissance era feel.

Applied Arts Awards Annual is one of the largest and most well respected awards publications in the visual arts community, so we are of course honoured to be recognized along with all the other great talent in the book. The awards issue will be released sometime in May, so make sure to buy a copy or browse through one at your local magazine stand to see these images in print. Once the issue is released, you’ll also be able to see the images on their website at www.appliedartsmag.com. But until then, last years winners are still up and definitely worth browsing through as there are some great shots in that group as well.

Keeping up with the momentum, we came up with a plan to shoot another simple product…candy!! This shoot definitely needed a different feel than the breads, so we went in the completely opposite direction, getting most vibrant colour and dynamic motion possible for a static subject. It’s also something our studio has never shot before, so we’re always happy to do something brand new.
